Haas by Design

Jon Haas is a multi-disciplinary artist, designer, and documentarian.  What began as a childhood dream to become an astronaut and work among the stars turned into a snowball journey through science, art, journalism and the outdoors.  From his Theater/Anthropology tutelage at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill to a documentary expedition in Malawi that culminated in a full-scale live staged production, Jon is continuing to explore various modes of transmitting stories.  He received his M.F.A. in Design and Technology at the University of Texas at Austin and is currently working for Meow Wolf, an immersive art experience company, as a video/lighting designer.

He has designed concert lighting for Gary Clark Jr., Lake Street Dive, and Sylvan Esso while corporate Lighting/Video clients include The White House, MTV, and the Human Rights Campaign.  His creative interests are backed up by over a decade of engineering and technical expertise for some of the most demanding professional situations.

In addition, he is an avid photographer and videographer to accompany his adventurous expeditions from the oceans to craggy summits. With his newly acquired fascination with alpine mountaineering, he has his eyes set on exploring further the cascades and the swiss alps.

The  Process

Jon's design process is one of creation and refinement.  He is drawn to cohesive elements that all serve a conceptual aim.  When the technology fades into the background of an experience, we can be witness to true magic and Jon relishes sharing that with others.  He approaches every project with a vast array of skills and this allows him to anticipate and facilitate more effectively.  His mind is planted between the realm of live bodies on stage and a limitless digital world.  He's a dreamer and he makes things happen.
